UNPLANNED BEGINNINGS and EMPOWERING FASHION: A Conversation with ALLA OUVAROVA, Co- Founder and CEO of TWO CHICKS and the FUTURE FEMALE ENTREPRENEUR Initiative

May 22, 2024

In the bustling world of entrepreneurship, stories of unexpected beginnings and successful journeys often stand out amidst the crowd. Alla Ouvarova, the co-founder and CEO of Two Chicks and the visionary behind the Future Female Entrepreneur initiative, embodies this narrative of spontaneity and perseverance. A business owner, mother of two, and athlete – having just qualified for the Hyrox World Championships, she really does it all!

Alla, is a great friend and mentor to me, who I met when I joined the Future Female Entrepreneur initiative in my first year of University and have worked with Two Chicks and FFE since. In our conversation, Alla shares insights into her entry into the food industry, joined by Two Chicks co-founder Anna Richey, the challenges she faces as a female entrepreneur, and the empowering role of fashion in her entrepreneurial journey.

Please introduce yourself and your business.

I am Alla Ouvarova and I am the co-founder and CEO of Two Chicks, and the Future Female Entrepreneur initiative.

How did you get into the industry you have chosen to start your business in?

That was totally unplanned! My friend who was to become my business partner spotted a gap in the market for liquid egg white and we set up a business together to close that gap, introducing Two Chicks liquid egg white into the retail market in the UK and further afield.

What has been a career highlight for you?

There have been several along the journey, and as an entrepreneur, you’re always looking at the next challenge!

What challenges have you faced as a female in business?

Plenty of those too, the main one being access to capital in the very beginning.

How would you describe your personal style when it comes to fashion?

Hhhmmm depends on the day… I like beautiful and cool pieces, a bit funky, but still glam!

Do you feel that what you choose to wear empowers you in business?

The right outfit can certainly make you feel amazing and therefore powerful.

What piece of advice would you give to both a male and female counterpart in business to support and champion women?

Women must not be afraid to push themselves and their boundaries, and men must allow and support them.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

It wasn’t exactly advice, more of an observation, and it was that my slightly crazy traits are the ones that will enable me to be successful!

In the world of business, Alla Ouvarova's story as a female founder stands as a testament to the power of resilience, and self-belief. Alla’s achievements and entrepreneurial journey inspires aspiring entrepreneurs to embrace the unexpected and celebrate their individuality. As Alla continues to pave the way for future female leaders through the Future Female Entrepreneur initiative, her journey serves as inspiration to me, and I thank her for taking the time to share her insights with me to share with you.

Autumn is officially here, as we say goodbye to sunny days and lighter evenings we look to the month ahead. Heading back to the hustle and bustle of daily life and work routines. Not forgetting this season is also filled with crispy maple-coloured leaves, cashmere jumpers all captured with a chill in the air and a hot chocolate in hand. Yet, as any fashion disciple knows this month in the fashion calendar is equally as electric as it is hectic.
