NOWLAN Our Debut Collection Runway Show

June 28, 2024

NOWLAN’s debut collection 2024 runway show was a powerful message to 'Don’t Fuck With Women'. Presented at the Jimmy Choo Academy in Mayfair, in the age old Georgian mansion filled with fairy tale ceilings and a grand staircase that wraps around the centre of the building.

The show begins with an introduction of Tubular Bells and the accent down the staircase into the first room as the electric guitar begins to build. Each model walks with power and confidence, demanding attention.

The collection blends British countryside aesthetics with 70s punk influences. Inspired by designer Niamh's upbringing in the British countryside and her love for 70s rock and roll, the collection reflects the music that filled her home, thanks to her father's own connection to that era.

The collection exudes feminine power, evident not only in the garments but throughout the entire brand. For Niamh, sharing this message is paramount: women are powerful and strong, yet also imperfect and vulnerable. This powerful message will be paramount and a core value to the brand in its longevity.

In line with our British heritage NOWLAN has partnered with the iconic Harris Tweed to supply the main fabric of the collection. This collection breaths new life into this dead stock tweed. Harris Tweed® is a timeless emblem of Scottish heritage and craftsmanship, the only fabric in the world governed by an Act of Parliament. Woven from pure virgin wool, it bears the hallmark of the Outer Hebrides islands, where it has been meticulously crafted for centuries. Harris Tweed Hebrides must fibre dye and blend wool shades, before carding and spinning to create yarn which is handwoven in the home of the weaver before being returned to the mill in Shawbost for finishing. Only once all these stages have been carefully followed can the fabric be granted the famous Orb certification mark. These tweed pieces are true British heritage excellence that are a modern wardrobe staple.

A cornerstone of Niamh's dad's 70s wardrobe was patchwork garments, making a leather patchwork gilet jacket a crucial piece to complete the collection. The leather used is sourced from factory offcuts that would otherwise be sent to landfill. NOWLAN aims to work further with these off cut deadstock fabrics to create future collections.

We were honoured to have guests including, Idalia Salsamendi, Precious Muir, Laura Pradelska and Jimmy Choo himself in attendance to view the show. Each have been huge supporters of NOWLAN and we thank them for their continued support.

The debut collection focuses on exaggerated and rounded silhouettes. From collection research to collages these exaggerated proportions were very apparent and modernised these very classic inspirations. Using gathering techniques and shoulder pads these enlarged proportions come to life. Other details include pattern matching across the checks and enclosed button fronts.

Autumn is officially here, as we say goodbye to sunny days and lighter evenings we look to the month ahead. Heading back to the hustle and bustle of daily life and work routines. Not forgetting this season is also filled with crispy maple-coloured leaves, cashmere jumpers all captured with a chill in the air and a hot chocolate in hand. Yet, as any fashion disciple knows this month in the fashion calendar is equally as electric as it is hectic.
